Think!

You see, Dr. Stadler, people don't want to think. And the deeper they get into trouble, the less they want to think. But, by some sort of instinct, they feel that they ought to and it makes them feel guilty. So they'll bless and follow anyone who gives them a justification for not thinking. Anyone who makes a virtue - a highly intellectual virtue - out of what they know to be their sin, their weakness and their guilt.
(Dr. Floyd Ferris, Atlas Shrugged)

In addition to my own writings and reactions to select articles and Internet forum postings, I will also post links to articles that resonate with me here.

Freewill: You Never Forget Your First Love (April 18, 2007)
Another unpublished article.

Fathers-4-Justice: Would Ayn Rand approve? (May 6, 2005)
Published in both ifeminists and Mens News Daily. “The British are coming! The British are coming!”

Advice to America: “Shrug” (January 30, 2004)
This is an unpublished article I wrote for www.lewrockwell.com. Unfortunately, Lew said that the article wasn’t for him. So much for my writing career :-)

The True Best Interests of Children (February 3, 2003)
An article I wrote for the (now defunct) Texas Justice Press.

The Bill of No Rights (1993)
"A whole lot of people were confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim that they require a Bill of No Rights." Irony does have a sense of humor.

Punishment and Proportionality (April 2, 2007)
This article is excerpted from chapter 13 of The Ethics of Liberty by Murray Rothbard. This is a wonderful article discussing why punishment should be proportionate to the crime and specifically about compensating the victim. Our government is all about its nonsensical crimes against society, taking our focus away from where the real focus should be: that crimes can only be against an individual victim. It is the individual victim who should be compensated; yet, when government exists, it is only the government that benefits from criminal punishment.

A Purge for Legislatures (1927, posted March 7, 2007)
Upon reading (and enjoying) H.L. Mencken’s selected collection of articles in a book called “A Mencken Chrestomathy.” In 1927, he wrote “A Purge for Legislatures.” I was so impressed by its brilliance and common sense that I retyped it here for your consideration. As he indicated that “[m]y plan belongs to any reformers who care to lift it,” I didn’t think there’d be a problem with reproducing it. (I apologize in advance for any typos.)

Universal Morality: A Proposition (January 26, 2007)
Stefan Molyneux is one of my favorite authors at www.lewrockwell.com. He has some great articles about morality (The Gun in the Room is a perfect example for those who misunderstand why the Republican and Democratic platforms are EXACTLY the same.) This is another terrific article describing the basic framework of morality. Train yourself in the basics of moral reasoning, thus allowing yourself to make consistent and correct decisions no matter what the situation.

Objectivism and the State - An Open Letter to Ayn Rand (1969)
When hearing of my love for Ayn Rand's books, most have referred to me as an Objectivist. However, I have never referred to myself as such. Why? Putting aside that many who consider themselves Objectivists don't even understand the basics of Rand's proselytizations, I don't agree with everything that Rand suggests. For example, while Rand supports limited government (which I once did as well), I consider myself an anarchist - I advocate for no government whatsoever. This is a brilliant article describing why even limited government (which was what our Constitution was supposed to bring us) was doomed to fail.

Imperialism: Enemy of Freedom (October 28, 2006)
I found this article so powerful that it impelled me to make a donation to my favorite news site: www.lewrockwell.com. Lew Rockwell discusses why capitalism will always be positive for humanity, while everything that government does will always be to the detriment of humanity.

Against Woman Suffrage (May 10, 2006, originally written February 24, 1877)
I was speaking with someone a few months ago who used to be a friend of Nick Rockefeller. He told me a story about how Nick was trying to convince him to join the secretive Council of Foreign Relations, a group of corrupt individuals eager to promote socialism throughout the world and, specifically, within the United States. To show the power of the CFR and the hidden government, Junior described that it was the hidden government that financed women's suffrage, and why they did so: it was in no way to give women the right to vote - it was specifically to increase the taxpayer pool, who would then pay more taxes to the bankers that made up the hidden government. Think about that as you consider the immigration question and why the government wants to completely open our borders. As Lysander Spooner explains: “As a general rule, oppression was the only motive for which laws were ever made.”

Is it enough to say, 'Show us the law'? (May 7, 2006)
Vin Suprynowicz wrote a review about the AMAZING (but very scary) film America, From Freedom to Fascism. I understand he got quite a bit of flack for writing such a positive review. This is his response. As an aside, Vin's book The Black Arrow is a great story.

The Argument From Morality - Or, how we will win… (November 29, 2005)
Stefan Molyneux writes an outstanding piece about our moral crisis. The primary problem I have with his theory is that the people with whom you would use these arguments are the ones most likely to run away from these truths. As he correctly states, "Throughout their lives, people make thousands of decisions based on certain moral principles – and it if turns out that those principles were wrong, then they will be forced to admit that their whole lives have been spent in the service of falsehood, or corruption, or evil – and that is more than most people can stomach." Yup.

Katrina and Socialist Central Planning (October 10, 2005)
Lew Rockwell, who is the president of the Mises Institute and editor of Lewrockwell.com, presents another fine piece proving the obvious that most of you refuse to know: the government is NEVER your friend. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER.

Brace Yourself for a Hoot (September 27, 2005)
Join me in laughing at the "Totally Senseless Actions by Tremendously Stupid Airheads" of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The incompetence of our government is without bounds.

The great leap backward (June 28, 2005)
Vox Day is a consistent contributor at WorldNetDaily. In this piece, he discusses the final nail in the coffin for private property: Kelo v. City of New London. As we no longer live in the land of the free, what's to be done? Recall the Sons of Liberty.

Ending Tyranny Without Violence (June 14, 2005)
Murray Rothbard (1926-1995) was the dean of the Austrian School of economics and the founder of libertarianism. Here he writes about the political thought of 16th-century libertarian Étienne de la Boétie. He discusses "why in the world do people consent to their own enslavement?" La Boétie concludes that “obviously there is no need of fighting to overcome [a] single tyrant, for he is automatically defeated if the country refuses consent to its own enslavement.” If only...

Movie Review: The Incredibles (April 2, 2005)
Strange, I know, to see something like a movie review on this site. Regardless of the fact that Wendy McElroy is one of the only REAL woman warriors in this fight against these terrorists (Devvy Kidd is another one that comes to mind), you'll understand why it's here once you read her article. (And, yes, Samantha did love the movie.)

American men: Too many wimps and sissies (March 25, 2005)
Devvy Kidd is absolutely amazing. Her articles are so dead on target.

Blogs or Blotto? (February 21, 2005)
"[L]ying, distortions, and propagandizing... has long infected traditional news outlets..." The establishment media are going down. Good riddance.

America Not Among Top Ten Freest (February 11, 2005)
No shit Sherlock... like we needed the Heritage Foundation to tell us that.

Long live secession! (January 20, 2005)
Galt's Gulch? The Republic of Vermont? One can dream.

First Graders Shame Judicial Activists (January 19, 2005)
Everything you need to know about the judiciary... from First Grade Class, Room 3, Washington Elementary School. Though I'm not a religious person, and though I've never read the Bible, a fellow father once directed me to Isaiah 11:6: "and a little child shall lead them."

Bush Issues Executive Order Forming Advisory Committee on Income Tax Reform (January 14, 2005)
Snore. More fodder for those without cognition. "Back on May 25, 1956, Coleman T. Andrews, who was Commissioner of the IRS under Eisenhower for 33 months before he resigned, gave a lengthy interview to U.S. News & Report. He is quoted as follows: '....We're confiscating property now....That's socialism. It's written into the Communist Manifesto. Maybe we ought to see that every person who gets a tax return receives a copy of the Communist Manifesto with it so he can see what's happening to him....the inevitable end of "steeply" graduated taxes on income and inheritances, and absolutism in any form is slavery...'"

The Lying State (January 3, 2005)
"A lie told often enough..." When are you going to stop believing what you were taught in government-run schools, told by government-run reporters, and heard from, er... GOVERNMENT? It's your own laziness that keeps you ignorant; just the way the government wants you. Oh, wait - I forgot: ignorance is bliss, right? (Sigh.)

War, Peace, and the State (November 10, 2004)
A great list of essential historical readings on wars (and related matters) which have involved or affected the united [sic] States, starting in 1776 -- from Lew Rockwell contributor Joseph Stromberg.

Teachers' Kids Avoid Public Schools (September 22, 2004)
"More than 25 percent of public school teachers in Washington and Baltimore send their children to private schools, a new study reports," the Washington Times reports. "Nationwide, public school teachers are almost twice as likely as other parents to choose private schools for their own children, the study by the Thomas B. Fordham Institute found. More than 1 in 5 public school teachers said their children attend private schools." In "A Lesson in Waste: Where Does All the Federal Education Money Go?," Education Policy Analyst Neal McCluskey writes: "Despite the huge infusion of federal cash and the near tripling of overall per pupil funding since 1965, national academic performance has not improved. Math and reading scores have stagnated, graduation rates have flatlined, and researchers have shown numerous billion-dollar federal programs to be failures." WELL, DUH!

The average voter is an idiot (September 21, 2004)
Why does the government get away with everything it does? Because YOU aren't paying attention... because YOU don't care... because YOU don't give it any thought. Do we not live in a rational world?

The Thought Police and the American Community Survey (September 13, 2004)
Founded in 1982 by constitutional attorney and author John W. Whitehead, The Rutherford Institute is a civil liberties organization that provides free legal services to people whose constitutional and human rights have been threatened or violated. "Everywhere we look these days, we are either being watched, taxed or some bureaucrat is placing another bit of information in our government files." Yet MOST OF YOU ignore it with the attitude of "well, it hasn't impacted me, so I why should I be concerned?" Niemöller was so right: "'First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist, so I said nothing. Then they came for the Social Democrats, but I was not a Social Democrat, so I did nothing. Then came the trade unionists, but I was not a trade unionist. And then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew, so I did little. Then when they came for me, there was no one left to stand up for me."

How Tyranny Came to America (September 3, 2004)
Joseph Sobran is a regular contributor to one of my favorite media outlets, www.lewrockwell.com (even though they did reject my article).

So Much for Free Speech (August 25, 2004)
When the press start realizing that the government no longer pays attention to the Constitution, especially biased newspapers like The Washington Post, you know there's no hope for us left without the Second American Revolution. If you found this article interesting, World Net Daily has related article called Traitor to the Constitution.

2 Ex-I.R.S. Lawyers' Licenses Suspended for Misconduct (August 21, 2004)
Joe Banister is a C.P.A. and a Former IRS Criminal Investigation Division Special Agent. Since learning about the IRS fraud, he has been actively spreading the word (e.g., www.freedomabovefortune.com, see also former IRS agent Sherry Peel Jackson, a certified fraud examiner, among others). He recently sent this e-mail to his list. In my opinion, David Kay Johnston is a plant for the IRS (or, rather, the Establishment) who happens to work at the New York Times. Ergo, his articles have zero credibility with me. So, if he wrote this article, it must have been much, much worse than what he describes and he felt he had to say something. I'll bet that there's much, much more to this story than he tells us.

Nonfilers Dragnet Nabs Big Fish (July 15, 2004)
Has anyone ever considered stopping for a moment to really THINK and try to understand why the Wall Street Journal reports that just in California ALONE, the "latest list of suspected nonfilers for 2002 includes 865 millionaires... 6,756 lawyers, 1,458 certified public accountants, 22,769 contractors and 20,473 doctors, dentists, and other "medical professionals?" It later says: "Recently, officials said they sent out notices to more than 700,000 individuals in the past year, asking for tax returns for 2002. In the previous year, the state sent out 647,580 notices to nonfilers asking for returns for 2001." That means that, at minimum, at least 700,000 individuals in California ALONE know that they aren't liable, and the number continues to grow every year.

I find this article especially humorous considering how the Wall Street Journal tries to play down the significance, suggesting that the "explanations" may be "simple." But, of course the explanations ARE simple - no one is liable for the tax, no matter if you are a millionaire, lawyer, CPA, contractor, and/or medical professional. "Still, tax officials say long-term non-filing remains a persistent, multibillion dollar problem, one that officials have been battling for decades." DO YOU KNOW WHY? Because ever since June 21, 1788 when the Constitution was ratified, the government has not been authorized to directly tax incomes (regardless of the 16th Amendment, and regardless of whether or not the 16th Amendment was properly ratified).

I also included the other article on that page, stating that the total cost to deal with taxes is about $135 BILLION, with $85 BILLION of that for individuals alone. And when the rest of you learn that you are not liable for the income tax, that drain of $85 BILLION on the economy is going to go "poof."

I-Team: Tax Delinquency Among Federal Workers (July 8, 2004 - updated to $2.8 billion as of January 17, 2007... same ol' story - the Excel spreadsheets for 2004 and 2005 provide the detail)
Guess which employer has got a significant number of employees who don't pay income taxes totaling over $2.6 BILLION dollars? That's right - the federal government itself. After all, they've known for the longest time that "income," in a constitutional sense and as defined clearly by the U.S. Supreme Court in Merchants' Loan & Trust Co v Smietanka 255 U.S. 509 (1921), means a corporate profit. And, certainly when they are "earning" (cough, cough) their salaries, they know they, as individuals, are not a corporation and they also know that their wages are not profits (not that the government would even know how to put together a profit and loss statement anyway). This ABC reporting team calls this finding ironic - HA! There's no irony here whatsoever. If you want to dive a little deeper, review the non-compliance rates of some of the federal agencies. Don't be too shocked though: remember, as the U.S. Supreme Court has clearly stated in Flora v. United States, 362 U.S. 145 (1960), paying income taxes is voluntary (which is why the 16th Amendment is irrelevant). When you're really ready to learn the truth, check on Irwin Schiff's site and purchase his book, or, see Larken Rose's site and view his free video. Is $40 really too much (much less a free video) to learn the truth? If you don't want to purchase the book or view the free video, you obviously don't want to know the truth. Why do so many people CHOOSE to fake reality? Don't answer that - I already know. Lack of courage.

Celebrating Independence (July 1, 2004)
What the July 4 "holiday" is supposed to represent (which many of you have completely forgotten).

Judicial Immunity vs Due Process: When Should a Judge be Subject to Suit? (December 11, 2003)
In the American judicial system, few more serious threats to individual liberty can be imagined than a corrupt judge. Clothed with the power of the state and authorized to pass judgment on the most basic aspects of everyday life, a judge can deprive citizens of liberty and property in complete disregard of the Constitution. The injuries inflicted may be severe and enduring. Yet the recent expansion of a judge-made exception to the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1871, chief vehicle for redress of civil rights violations, has rendered state judges immune from suit even for the most bizarre, corrupt, or abusive of judicial acts.' In the last decade this "doctrine of judicial immunity" has led to a disturbing series of legal precedents that effectively deny citizens any redress for injuries, embarrassment, and unjust imprisonment caused by errant judges.

If the U.S. Supreme Court refuses to hear us, I predict the complete end of government not too far behind. Which of the 3 government branches do I predict will be the first to go? The judiciary - specifically, the U.S. Supreme Court. They started this by trying to protect their own power. Shakespeare sure knew what he was talking about in Henry VI: "THE FIRST THING WE DO, LET'S KILL ALL THE LAWYERS." Well put.

Property and Order (October 24, 2003)
"...conflicts are created and maintained by government policies and practices that forcibly deprive a property owner of decision making control over something he or she owns. Whether the ownership interest is in oneself, or in those external resources that a person requires in order to promote his or her interests or to otherwise express one’s purpose in life, the state is inevitably at war with property owners."
That about sums it up.

Against School: How Public Education Cripples Our Kids, and Why (September, 2003)
There can be no question - I hate public schools. I always have. Additionally, I despise the unions (as supported and protected directly by the government), which anyone who knows anything about schools knows is the key destroyer of education (don't kid yourself -- yes, the unions know this too). Though, what may appear as a contradiction, I hold teaching (as a profession) in the highest regard and respect it more than most any other profession. To me, it is absolutely ludicrous that teachers are paid so low (though, of course, anyone who knows anything about basic economics knows that teachers are paid so low because of the very unions that purportedly help them get paid higher salaries). Growing up, I felt that the public schools stifled me from what I wanted to accomplish. I was constantly bored with what they were teaching me. Additionally, I'll never forget speaking with my high school "guidance" counselor about what I wanted to do when I grew up while planning for college. I had a real enjoyment for computers at an early age, and had done some research on my own about a new type of job that was just gaining visibility: it was called a "systems analyst." But, immediately my high school counselor indicated that I could never be a systems analyst because I was only a "B" student in math, and any job with computers would require being an "A" student. So much for his "guidance."

Keeping the Nation at Risk (April 25, 2003)
As described by the Cato Institute: "Last fall, R. Eden Martin, a lawyer from a powerful business group in Chicago, wrote a blunt memorandum to Arne Duncan, the chief executive of the Chicago public schools, warning that dozens of failing schools that had resisted improvement after years on an academic watch list would soon face a takeover," the New York Times reports. "But there was an alternative - the city could shut them down on its own and create small, new, privately managed schools to replace them. And that, Mr. Martin wrote, would bring a crucial advantage: the new schools could operate outside the Chicago Teachers Union contract." In "Keeping the Nation at Risk," David Salisbury and Myron Lieberman, respectively, director of Cato's Center for Educational Freedom and chairman of the Education Policy Institute, write: "The unions welcome reforms that lead to higher salaries and smaller classes for teachers and more dues-revenue for the unions. At the same time, the teacher unions oppose reforms that would empower parents or allow private schools to compete on a level playing field for students."

  • Miscellaneous Rantings
Occasionally, I will write/respond to various posts on sites dealing with divorce. If you’re interested in reading additional thoughts I have about this fraud on humanity, you will find the links here. As an active participant in the Center for Children’s Justice, I respond to posts often. Occasionally, someone will make some comments that get my blood boiling. Come take a look. My comments will typically be the ones NOT with a “>” preceding them.
